The Gougoustamos Family has been in the restaurant business for over 40 years. The family patriarch, John Gougoustamos opened Diner 248 in 2009 with, two of his four sons, Stavros and John Jr.  Their passion and determination to provide guests with outstanding quality and service was the driving force of their success. A few years later Stavros and John Jr. along with their two other brothers, Tom and Vasilios opened Home Town Breakfast, Bar & Grill. Together the four brothers continue the family tradition of excellence. “When it comes to serving great food, quality as opposed to quantity separates our restaurants from our competition”, stated Tom Gougoustamos.

Challenge:

The Gougoustamos brothers know that in order to serve quality food to their guests they need to buy quality ingredients from their suppliers. There are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to sourcing food from suppliers. “Although keeping your food cost inline is imperative to running a successful restaurant, It’s not all about price. We set our quality standards and make sure our suppliers know what we expect from them”, says Stavros. In the beginning, Stavros invested a lot of time and effort in making sure he was getting the quality he expected at the best price. He stated that “Managing food purchases was a manual and time-consuming process for us. I would spend a lot of time making sure we were getting the right products at the best price. The addition of our second restaurant just added to the challenge”.

Solution:

“We were introduced to Sarbari Technologies in May 2015 and were intrigued by their solution”. Sarbari recommended the Enterprise Multi-Unit application of the MyOrderPlacer software to help automate sourcing and food ordering for their restaurants. “The UI was clean and easy to use”. The Gougoustamos brothers were able to set specification on every ingredient and the software automatically sorted through all the supplier offering to find the best price for the quality they expected. “We just build the order and our software shops for the best value based off of our specs and between our preferred suppliers… It does the job in seconds that would otherwise take hours manually”.

Results:

Using the MyOrderPlacer software has helped free up time to focus on other areas of the business. “Having all the information and data for both restaurants in one application has made running our business more efficient and we noticed considerable food cost savings as well.” Stavros added, “I could never go back to the old way…”

Looking ahead:

The Gougoustamos brothers are focusing on growth. “We feel that Take-out is the next growth area for our business. At times, it’s a challenge just keeping up with the orders…”. Stavros and his brothers are also planning to expand their business to include a function facility at their Home Town property.
